WHY do we need to Manage Interfaces?
There are many good reasons why a high focus on interface management is essential, with HSE; reputation; cost; and schedule all being core factors.
By definition, interfaces are at the boundaries between different organisation's scope, roles and responsibilities. Any confusion or uncertainty leads to delays, increased costs, rework, and potentially dangerous errors or assumptions.
Good examples of projects where interface management is - or should be - an essential core activity are:
major engineering projects - like oilfield development, and other safety-critical projects like nuclear power, refinery or other process plant;
prestigious projects - like Olympic games, world cup, new hub airport for example (with construction, transport infrastructure, accommodation, tourism, security, coordination of many organisations in host country, coordination of organisations globally)
